CIP '06: The Shape of Foil
If you want to see how the season's Foil fencing will look, you go to the Challenge International de Paris, Souvenier Rommel. The CIP is one of the greatest World Cups in the world, with 190 fencers representing 30 countries, and over 12,000 spectators. Fencing Pictures was selected by the French Fencing Federation to produce the tournament.
We captured the fencing from several high definition cameras, fed the large-screen jumbo-trons in the arena with several live-mix camera angles. We took color commentary of the action from Maestro Patrice Menon in French, and commentary from Jon Tiompkin (USA Men's Foil Team) in English.
Want to see what it looks like? It's available online now, free! See the Semi-Final between Ralf Bissdorf (Germany) and Benjamin Kleibrink (Germany).
Tournament Promotion. You can also watch the promotional teaser for the 2006 CIP. Tell us what you think of it, and use it to promote the sport! Fencing is more exciting when you show it than when you talk about it.

Fencing Pictures: New FIE Masks!
The FP equipment division finally delivered what we were waiting for!
Our Standard Mask for clubs and competitions fits like the best, looks beautiful, and has an entry-level price. We all start cheap, and then save up for the "good" mask — here is a great mask you don't have to build up to.
One of our innovations in all our masks is better padding all over, but especially the chin (they fit!) and head (no more head-aches for sabrists!). Now you can fence all day long in comfort. The first shipment of 100 masks was received in November at the fp headquarters, and after 60 days they were sold out... thanks to great word of mouth advertising. Everybody tells us how good the masks feel.
To assure quality, our Standard Masks are CE Certified (Conformité Européenne), the quality standard used in the EU.
New! Now, we are very excited to announce our next big product, available soon: Fencing Pictures FIE-Certified Masks. We teamed up with the reknown Italian company, Gajardoni in Verona, Italy, to produce a special edition in black. Like our standard masks these are comfortable, light, and good-looking.
There are three models available, the FIE Foil/Epee mask, the regular FIE Sabre mask, and the clear FIE Sabre mask. These are all approved by the FIE SEMI Committee for use in International A-Grade competitions.
FP Athlete Bas Verwijlen has been using Fencing Pictures equipment all season, in several World Cups and Grand Prixes. He never has a problem at weapon control, and he especially likes our body cords. Bas will be among the first fencers to receive and use our new FIE Mask.
What are others saying?
Who is going to be the most experienced and judgmental user of the FP line of equipment? The coaches! We spoke to several coaches near our headquarters in Boston, MA.
"Great mask, great lames, and very nice blades. FP is what I use and recommend. The sabre blades especially are solid and attractive, and the price is certainly right. FP, you're on track." — Cesar Morales, Saber coach at Boston Fencer's Club, Boston, MA
"FP masks are the most comfortable masks around, there is no doubt. And the FP blades are the best blade for under $50 -- stiff, durable, and they don't break easily. We are using them in the club and they are a great investment." — Zoran Tulum, Owner/Head Coach of Zeta Fencing Studio, Natick MA
Where can you buy FP masks? You can visit fencingchannel.tv, or send us an email at fpstore@fencingpictures.com.

Bas Verwijlen Update
In the BasBlog, Fencing Pictures Athlete Bas Verwijlen writes from the road with his next competition diary entry. He is busy in the army, but that doesn't slow him down. He took 10th place in Poiters, France, on March 17th! And after that, he won the International Army Fencing Competition. Visit his page now to see all the latest updates.
St. Maur — Sherraine Mackay (Canada) wins big!
The fencing from St. Maur is now available online -- for free! Get it while it's hot! The video features Sherraine Mackay (Canada) making her second Gold Medal finish (she took three consecutive firsts, and then a third). Commentary by famous French epeeist Maureen Nissima.
Roadmap — Where are we going? What are we doing?
Challenge Bernadotte
Every year, Sweden hosts a huge epee Grand Prix. This year, there were almost 200 fencers, with 30 in the top 32 in the worl.d And all were vying to be the best — as Marcel Fischer (SUI) said, "At a competition this strong, it's almost like the World Championships!" We captured more than 40 interviews with the best epee athletes, and said good-bye to Daniel Strigel (Germany) who is retiring from competition.
Videos will be available by the end of April, 2006! See Fabrice Jeannet win the gold!
South Korea
The Junior Worlds are in South Korea this year. Fencing Pictures will be there, of course! Stay tuned for our updates of the action! Though Fencing Pictures is NOT providing an internet feed for this tournament, we will make a few highlight reels of the Individual events. We are also working on the live slow-motion replays, as we did for the 2005 Leipzig World Championships, refining the system for the Turino World Championships.
Hi-Def: Better than being there
Fencing Pictures is now shooting in Hi-Def! The quality is incredible — fencing finally has a video medium that captures every nuance. No disengage is too small, no tempo is sliced too thin, for our cameras to catch. All footage in 2006 (and some in 2005) is Hi-Def ready, and we hope to have our first fully Hi-Def DVD product ready for summer.
So hurry out to get your plasma screen TVs and fancy DVD player. We'll be waiting.
