Fencing Pictures Sponsors Bas Verwijlen
Help us welcome Bas Verwijlen
to the Fencing Pictures team!
This fiery epee fencer from the Netherlands took 3rd place at the 2005 World Championships, upsetting past Olympic Champ Marcel Fischer (Switzerland). He is currently 5th in the world.
Fencing Pictures proudly sponsors this promising young athlete with Fencing Pictures Brand fencing equipment, including the FP FIE Mask, Jackets, Weapons, Blades, and more.
Bas says:
I think FP is a great initiative for this sport because fencing is getting bigger and bigger every year. I am very happy with the work you do, because it was always hard to find footage and pictures from the big events, and now there is one place where people can find it. ...
I believe that FP will be of great importance for the fencing sport in general.
Greetz, Bas! Keep an eye out for an upcoming Fencing Pictures product -- a special epee DVD, with a discussion track by Bas and his coach (his father!). For now, you can learn all about Bas on the Fencing Channel -- how he started fencing, his notable results, and online interviews.
Breaking News! Fencing Pictures to produce the CIP
Fencing Pictures has been selected by the French Fencing Federation to produce the Challenge International de Paris!
The CIP is one of the biggest — and some say best — foil World Cups of the year, with over 7000 spectators and more than 130 countries represented by fencers. Fencing Pictures will be capturing the action as it happens, and blasting it onto the big-screen jumbotrons over the arena.
If you're at the tournament, stop by our booth or check out our DVDs at the French Federation boutique. We will be selling DVDs of the past CIPs also -- 2005 semifinals + finals + team final (25 euros), 2004 semifinals + finals (18 euros).
All the top FIE fencers wil be competing: Salvatore Sanzo (#1, Italy), Erwan Le Pechoux (#2, France), Liangliang Zhang (#3, China), Ralf Bissdorf (#4, Germany), Andrea Baldini (#5, Italy), Nicolas Beaudan (#6, France), Andrea Cassara (#7, Italy) and Benjamin Kleibrink (#8, Germany).
Check out the daily blog from our on-site team (starting January 28th).
Fencing on TV!
For our readers from the USA: Would you like to see fencing on television? Would you like to see the highlights of the 2005 Leipzig World Championships? Would you like to watch the US Women's Sabre team winning the Gold?
If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, then turn your TV to:
Comcast SportsNet West
Jan. 27 FIE Fencing World Championships - 2:00 p.m. PT
The footage is coming from the DVDs which Fencing Pictures produced in Leipzig, so this is your chance to see how they look before buying!
New on the website
Pavel Kolobkov — Doesn't know if he's very good yet. We put a question mark next his name, and then interview him about his World Championship win.
Philippe Boisse — Who was the great American Epee fencer who disappeared? We cover Team USA, training, Eric Boisse, modern fencing, politics, French versus German technique, and Philippe Boisse's 1984 Olympic Medal.
Daniel Strigel — He has that Silver Medal glow. We caught him right after his Men's Epee Team Match, Silver medal against France. We catch up with Strigel about his fencing, his individual performance, and the 2004 Olympics.
Fencing Pictures at a tournament near you!
Who loves ya, fencing? Fencing Pictures is donating prizes for upcoming tournaments. We will be providing twelve prizes for the Soren Thompson Invitational, a California (USA) tournament for high school and middle school fencers.
We are also providing prizes for the Memorial Day Round Robin Tournaments at the Prise de Fer fencing club in Massachusetts (USA). These are round-robin tournaments where each fencer essentiallly fences everyone else. What better way to relax after a marathon fencing session than with a DVD of fencing?
